The 3/8" Brass Flared Elbow is a 90-degree transition fitting used to connect 3/8" OD flared tubing to a 3/8" male NPT-threaded port. Constructed from lead-free brass, this elbow is suitable for applications involving fuel gas, potable water, compressed air, and hydraulic fluid systems. Its compact profile enables directional changes in tight spaces while maintaining a secure, mechanical seal.
Designed in accordance with SAE J512 (flare) and ASME B1.20.1 (pipe threads), the fitting supports repeated assembly without the need for soldering or sealant at the flare joint, making it ideal for systems requiring disconnection or service access.
For proper installation, the flared tubing must seat fully against the machined flare surface of the fitting. A flare nut (not included) is required to secure the connection. No sealant is needed on the flared end. For the MIP connection, apply thread sealant or PTFE tape per system requirements. Always follow recommended torque values to prevent thread deformation or damage to the flare surface.
This fitting is used in residential and light commercial installations, including water heater connections, appliance gas lines, refrigeration systems, and hydraulic loops. The flare design provides high resistance to vibration and thermal cycling, making it well-suited for systems subject to expansion and contraction.
Lead-free brass flared fittings used in potable systems must comply with the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). This elbow is certified to NSF/ANSI 61 and NSF/ANSI 372, and is compatible with building codes that recognize ASTM B584 brass components in fluid handling applications.
